Midget Major 92 Elites- Ken Woods
Ken Woods returns in his fourth season with the Monarchs 92 group to build on the success from two consecutive trips to Regionals. Ken brings over ten years of coaching experience to the ice and focuses on high tempo and challenging practices to facilitate player and team development and applying these principles in game situations. Off the ice Ken enjoys spending time with his family and reading about hockey systems and player development. Ken is a graduate of Bowdoin College with a double major in physics and math, received a PhD in physics from Dartmouth College, and brings a passion for teaching and learning to each practice. Ken is looking for players who have a strong work ethic, self discipline, are motivated, and are willing to push themselves and their teammates to take our success to the next level.
Midget Major 93 Selects- Larry Rocha
Embarking on his sixth season with the Monarchs organization, Coach Rocha, brings with him an indefatigable work ethic, respect for the value of an education and a passion for the game of hockey. Larry grew up playing hockey in Bricktown, NJ. He went on to play hockey at Saint Anselm College, where he was a four-year letterman and on the Dean’s list every semester. In his senior year he was selected as the school’s prestigious “Senior-Student-Athlete of the Year.” After college he had the option of going to graduate school or pursuing offers to play with several professional teams. Upon learning he was awarded a fellowship for graduate studies at Pennsylvania State University, he opted to work on his PH.D. in economics. While at Penn State he helped coach the ice hockey team. For his efforts in guiding the Nittany Lion Icers to their first National Championship, he was elected into the Penn State Ice Hockey Hall of Fame in 1999. Coach Rocha continued his academic pursuit after retiring from Penn State, and also continued to coach and teach at various prep schools including the Berkshire School, Brooks School, Lawrence Academy, and the Hotchkiss School. Outside of the rink, Larry Rocha is an avid surfer and hold black belts in three styles of martial arts. Larry is the USA Hockey's Coach-in-Chief for New Hampshire. Midget Minor 94 Elites-Paul Roy
The Junior Monarchs are excited to welcome Paul Roy to their coaching staff for the 2010-11 season. Paul comes over from the Manchester Flames where he has coached and served on the Board of Directors for over 25 years. He has brought two
teams to National Tournaments. Paul also serves on the NH Hockey Board of Directors as the VP of Midget Hockey.He has coached High School Hockey for the last six years, five at Manchester West and he is currently Head Coach for Goffstown High Hockey. Paul brings a wealth of experience and looks forward to coaching in the Jr. Monarchs organization.

Midget Minor 95 Selects- Co-Head Coaches- Mike Pierce and Adam Geier
Mike Pierce
Mike moved to Minot, North Dakota at the age of two where he was raised and began his passion for the sport of hockey playing for the Minot Hockey Boosters. His father retired from the US Air Force after twenty years of service and he moved from North Dakota to live in Vermont. He continued to play youth hockey in Vermont, played four years of high school hockey and two years in college before graduating with a degree in graphic design. Coach Pierce wanted to stay involved with the game and did that by volunteering as a coach before he and his wife had children. He began his coaching career with the Manchester Flames as the Associate Head Coach for the Bantam B team in 2002-2003 season, continued as the Associate Head Coach in 2003-2004 for the Pee Wee A team, and moved on to being the Associate Head Coach for two split seasons in the fall of 2004 and fall of 2005, both with the Midget Minors. Beginning in 2005, Coach Pierce received the opportunity to coach at the high school level as the JV Head Coach and Assistant Varsity Coach with Nashua South High School for four years, where he gained a lot of valuable experience. Starting in the fall of 2006, and continuing for three split seasons, Coach Pierce shifted gears and served as an Assistant Coach for the Junior Monarchs Midget Major team that won three state championships. Coach Pierce is looking forward to passing on my experience, knowledge, discipline, commitment, and my overall passion for the game, to those young players who are willing to wholeheartedly contribute their time and effort to the coaching staff of this team. Those players who unselfishly give their time and effort will undoubtedly watch themselves develop not only as individual players, but as teammates as well – a true life skill. Adam Geier
Adam Geier, from Long Island NY, couldn’t be more ecstatic to join the Junior Monarchs for the 2010-11 season. Adam holds a Masters degree in Exercise Science and has a wealth of varied experience in hockey including coaching, as well as, playing at a high level (Syracuse University D1 Club). Adam is looking forward to helping his players reach their personal and team goals. Coach Geier's academic background enables him to design and implement individualized or team strength and conditioning programs for aspiring athletes. Adam has worked hard to keep up and expand his education in the fitness industry. Along with his years of experience in sports training, he is certified by the National Academy of Sports Medicine as a Personal Trainer, Power Pilates, Group Fitness, Sports Nutrition and is also CPR/AED certified. Along the way to finding his passion in hockey, he has worked with minor league baseball players and collegiate athletes to improve speed, strength, endurance, agility and flexibility to maximize potential. In the 2009-2010, Adam guided the Freeport Arrows Bantam Minor team to a LIAHL championship. Adam will be the Hockey Director at Camp Pontiac during the summer of 2010, prior to joining the Jr. Monarchs. With Adam’s passion for coaching and skill development, Adam, continues to evolve and improve his coaching abilities with definitive plans to complete Level 3 & 4 USA Hockey Coaching Certification in September of 2010. He is enthusiastic about the opportunity to work with elite youth players and he is ambitious about teaching young players about hard work, character, game situation development and mental toughness. At the same time, Coach Geier understands the foundation of successful competitive hockey is based on skill development, team concept and keeping it fun while increasing the breadth and depth of the game. Adam looks forward to helping motivated youth players advance their careers to the next level of play by defining pre-determined individual and team goals prior to the season. Midget Minor AA (94/95) - Chuck Pacheco
Chuck Pacheco has been coaching in the Junior Monarchs Program, house league and travel hockey, since 2002. Prior to that, he was coaching Soccer in the Candia Youth Athletic Association. Chuck acquired his Level 4 Coaching Certification from USA Hockey in May '09. Chuck considers him lucky to be able to coach kids at the Midget level and will do his best on the bench for the team and each player. His main goal is to bring out leadership, spirit and good sportsmanship. He will be focused on keeping each player enthusiastic for the game, at the same time, working on skills they will need to be ready for the High School teams.
Bantam Major 96 Elites- Eddie Sargent
Eddie Sargent enters his sixth season as head coach of the 1996 team. In their Pee Wee Major year, the team won the state championship in Tier 1. Eddie brings with him over ten years of coaching experience from learn to skate to the Bantam level. Coach Sargent has been instrumental in developing power skating programs for several youth hockey programs. Eddie holds a USA Hockey Advanced Level Three Coaching Certificate. Bantam Major 96 Selects - Steve Mathieu
Steve Mathieu will be the Head Coach of the 96 Selects, He spent the 2009-10 season as an Assistant Coach on NH Jr. Monarchs Junior CHA team.. He has spent many years as head or assistant coach in the NH Avalanche and NH Jr. Monarchs programs, where he coached Squirt, Pee Wee and Midget teams. Steve has been successful at all levels, guiding teams to the state playoffs in every year. He stresses discipline and fundamentals, often repeating drills many times to make sure the players can move forward. He challenges his players and encourages them to set goals for themselves. He looks to develop the players – not only on the ice – but as fine and decent human beings off the ice. He strives for excellence in all aspects of player development. Steve holds a USA Hockey Advanced Level V Coaching Certificate.
Bantam Major 97 Elites- Jeremy Vega
Jeremy is excited to return for his third season as Head Coach of the Monarchs 97s. Jeremy also serves as the Assistant Program Director and the Player Development/ Coaching Director of the New Hampshire Junior Monarchs Youth Hockey Organization. During the 2007-08 season, he worked as a teacher and the Assistant Boys' Varsity Ice Hockey Coach at Tilton School. He was part Tilton's most successful season as a Division I -New England Prep School Program. The Rams finished 24-8, two players were placed into Division I schools and a number of others went onto play Junior A and at Division III institutions. In years past, Jeremy coached at many different levels in the Junior Monarchs Organization, including: head coach at both the Mite and Peewee levels and assistant coach at the Midget level. In addition to his duties with the travel program, he is the Program Director of Youth House League, Mini Monarchs and Summer Skills Sessions and has been an assistant coach on the junior ‘B’ team. Jeremy had the opportunity to coach at the 2006 USA Hockey National Select 15 Camp, the 2006 and 2007 USA Hockey Yankee Conference Festival and the 2007 and 2009 USA Hockey Jr. B Nationals, where the Jr. Monarchs placed runner-up and third place respectively. Jeremy places a high emphasis on player development and creating a culture conducive to players’ reaching their potential as individuals and teammates. Bantam Minor 97 Selects –Dan Duhamel
Dan comes to the Monarchs coaching staff excited to be back on the ice coaching after a few years off from behind the bench. Dan began coaching in the Manchester organization at the Bantam level then proceeded to move to the Concord Youth Hockey organization as an assistant coach and head coach for the Concord Capitals Bantam level for a few years. Dan worked with several coaches to develop an independent skills camp that helped many kids in the Concord Youth hockey program excel in their hockey abilities. He then went to Bow High School to coach their varsity hockey team for the first four years helping to build a solid foundation for the school. Dan went back to the youth hockey level to help coach Intro Mites and Mites as his sons became more involved in hockey. Dan carries a Level 3 Coaching Certificate and is looking to obtain the Level 4 certificate this year. He is committed to developing hockey players on and off the ice. A coaches role is to provide discipline and guidance to develop the kids as hockey players and as young adults. Peewee Major 98 Elites- Kevin McGuire
Kevin will be back for his third season with the Junior Monarchs program. Kevin has been involved in hockey in one form or another for the last 35 yrs. Kevin’s family was one of the founding families of the Salem Saints Youth Hockey Organization in the early 70's. In fact they still have an award named after his father. Kevin and his 2 brothers grew up playing for the Saints. He later went on to play Jr. Hockey in Tyngsboro for a couple of years and has been coaching for the last 10yrs. Most recently coaching, here, in the Jr. Monarchs Organization and as an assistant head coach for the Timberlane Owls high school team in Plaistow. Kevin previously coached in Exeter for the Freeze. Peewee Major 98 Selects- John Hall
Coach Hall has been coaching youth hockey for the past 8 years. He has coached at every level from Mites through Midgets, and his teams have experienced success at each level both on and off the Ice.Prior to coming to the Jr. Monarchs, he served as a Head Coach and the Director of Coaching for the Salem Saints where his teams captured two Dual State Championships as well as a GSL State finalist and an appearance in the New England Regionals.Coach Hall has been with the Jr. Monarchs for the past three seasons. He was Head Coach for the 95 team for two seasons and served as an assistant coach to both the Peewee AA and Midget AA teams this past season. The 95 team captured the 2008-09 GSL State Title and were the NH representative at the Northeast sectionals in Orono, ME. His Coaching philosophy is to improve each player's skill sets through focus on strong fundamentals. Positive reinforcement and strong motivational techniques are the emphasis of his coaching style. We look forward to the 2010-11 season where Coach Hall can share his passion for the game and help your player reach his/her potential.
Peewee Minor 99 Elites-Co-Head Coaches- Paul Bears and Dave Maloney
Dave grew up playing hockey in the Arlington (MA) Youth Hockey program and for the New England Jr. Whalers. He played at Arlington Catholic High School, also participating in the HNIB and Bay State Games summer tournaments. In addition, Dave played on the baseball and soccer teams in high school
After high school, he went onto play college hockey for the Bentley College Falcons. This will be Dave’s 5th year coaching in the Jr. Monarchs program (second year as a head coach) and he recently earned his USA Hockey Level 4 Coaching Certification. In addition to coaching ice hockey, Dave also coaches Little League Baseball in Candia. Coach Maloney’s goal as a coach is to create a safe and fun environment where the players will push themselves to develop their skills, become solid all-around hockey players and learn the important life lessons that come with being part of a team.
Peewee Minor 99 Selects- Ray Croteau
The Jr. Monarchs are excited to have Coach Ray back for his third season as a Head Coach. Ray grew up in Augusta Maine playing youth hockey. He then went on to play High School Hockey at Cony High School. Ray played 4 years in College at Plymouth State. He was named Captain in his senior year. He Graduate from Plymouth state in 1995. After college he went back and taught Physical Education at Cony High in Maine. He was the JV Hockey head coach and an assistant on the Varsity squad. He is a level 3 coach with USA hockey. He currently lives in Londonderry with his wife Maggie and 4 children Billy, Maddie, Mary and Katherine. Ray also coaches Baseball in Londonderry. Ray has a goal for coaching at the youth hockey level - All kids have fun and learn the fundamentals of the game. Fun has to be the most important factor at this level. If kids are having fun they will want to continue to develop skills and a greater understanding of the game. Entering his 4th season as the head coach of the 2000 team Terry holds his level 3 USA Hockey coaching certificate. His playing days started at age 4 in youth hockey. He then continued his hockey, playing 4 years of Varsity hockey for Rockville High School. He was elected Captain in both his Junior and Senior years. After high school, he went on to play 3 years for Western New England College in Springfield, MA. His goal is to provide the kids with a fun learning environment while teaching teamwork and a strong work ethic. Squirt Minor 01 Elite- Joe Valliancourt
Joe will be back for his second season working with the 2001 group. Coach Joe was the head coach of the Mite Majors in 2009-10 for the Jr Monarchs. Coach Joe grew up playing youth hockey in Manchester NH. He played many years of NH regional youth hockey. In high school, he played for Memorial High School winning the 1991 NH State Division 1 championship. He started coaching hockey by volunteering with several youth hockey organizations in NH, assisting with the team in which his nephew was playing for. In 2006, he was offered and accepted the position of assistant coach for Manchester Central High School, where he still currently coaches. Many years on the ice and many years coaching various levels of hockey has allowed him to work with and teach many ages of kids multiple skills in an effective manner. The philosophy that he will bring to the ice is to enhance the skills that the players possess, teach new skills and to begin to teach each child to play in a way that encourages both personal development and team building skills. Mite Major Elite- Jim Baril
Jim is excited to coach the Mite Major Elites in the 2010-11 season. Jim will begin his third season with the Jr Monarchs as he was the Head Coach of the Mite Minors in 2009-10 and was also a coach in the Mini Monarchs program in 2008-09. Jim grew up in Manchester, NH and began playing hockey at the age of 8. He played in the local Manchester leagues as a youth then played four years at Central High in Manchester (69-72), where he served as assistant captain as a junior and captain as a senior. Jim’s passion for hockey continued through coaching his son, Brandon Baril, and other local kids from the area when he served as head coach of the Manchester Flames for 15 years at various youth levels during the years of 1981 through 1995. His teams were often participants in state and regional finals. He had the privilege to take two teams to the USA Hockey National Tournament, in 1990 (Buffalo, NY) and 1993 (Anchorage, AK). He also had the honor of coaching the New Hampshire team at the Yankee Conference Festival. Many of his players went on to play college hockey at many different levels including Division 1, and professional hockey in Europe. He feels fortunate to have had the same “core group” of kids during those 15 years, enabling him to develop a great coaching relationship with his teams. Jim believes youth hockey is about having fun, learning the game but most importantly, discipline and team work! Jim is excited to begin coaching in youth hockey again and is thrilled to announce that his son, Brandon Baril, will be assisting him. Brandon began skating at 18 months old, spent his hockey career with the Flames, Rhode Island Saints, Manchester West High School, and Manchester Central High School. Brandon was named to the New Hampshire All-star team his senior year of high school and went on to play hockey at Assumption College. Jeremy is excited to coach the Mite Minor Elites in 2010-11. He spent the 2009-10 season as the Head Coach of the Mite Intro to Travel and Peewee Major 97 teams. Mite 3- Intro to Travel- Jim Labbe
Jim grew up playing hockey in Quebec, Canada. He played hockey for such teams as the Lac St-Louis Selects and the AAA Lac St-Louis Lions before coming to the United States. Jim played HNIB and attended Deerfield Academy where he played varsity hockey. He went on to play Division III hockey at Williams College. Jim holds a Level III USA Hockey coaching certificate having coached youth hockey in California and most recently helping with the Mini Monarchs and the Jr. Monarchs Mite Intro to Travel programs over the past two seasons. Lady U-14 – Adrianna Riggio
As a 2010 Business graduate from Castleton State College, Adrianna started her collegiate hockey career at nationally ranked, Plattsburgh State University and brought it to a close playing for a young Castleton squad. While at Castleton, she held the captain position for three years and was also named to the ECAC East All-Academic Team during the 2008-2009 season. Competitiveness and determination have always played a primary role in Adrianna’s hockey career, whether it was being the only girl on her high school JV team or competing in an Easton Skills Competition at a USA Hockey National Championship tournament. Adrianna’s experience playing for the Buffalo Bisons girls hockey organization is where her skills and love for the game progressed. She played for the Bisons from U-12 until U-19 levels. During her high school years, the Bisons went on to win four New York State Championships, which led to four consecutive USA Hockey National Championships Tournaments births, from 2000 to 2004. At the Nationals, the Bisons placed third place twice. In June of 2004, Adrianna was selected to participate in the USA Hockey National 17/18 Select Festival in Lake Placid, New York. There, she received instruction from the top coaches in country and received the satisfaction of playing with the best players in the country at her age level. These achievements lead to the start of her hockey coaching career and strengthened her knowledge of the game significantly. Over the last few seasons Adrianna has coached and been a counselor at numerous camps, including: The New York State Development Camp in Morrisville, NY, USA Hockey’s New England Development Camp at the University of Vermont and The Todd Marchant Hockey Camp in Buffalo, NY.
